Gift Cards in Lizzy

Did you know that Lizzy has the ability to help you create, track, and sell gift cards? It’s very easy to setup and FREE to use — another cool feature built-in to Lizzy.

To Setup Gift Cards in Your Lizzy System:

First, you’ll need to obtain the gift cards you’d like to sell. There are many sources online where you can get customized gift cards made especially for your dealership. You don’t have to specifically have a magnetic stripe or a barcode, although both can save you some time and prevent errors when you’re selling a card or a customer is making a purchase with one. The important thing is that each gift card has its own unique number.

Next, you’ll want to create the part number for the gift card. Go to Inventory > Items > Add New Item. You may wish to put your dealership name as the manufacturer, in which case, your dealership’s contact record must be set as a Manufacturer. Once you have selected the manufacturer, select your category and the selling department. Then choose the item number that you want to sell the gift card as (by the way, this doesn’t need to be a number — you can enter Gift Card or any other term you like). Make sure you list the cost per gift card, although your list price should be left blank as the selling price will be different depending upon the customer.

If you have not already brought in the item on a PO (purchase order), be sure that you enter the quantity you have on hand and assign the gift cards to a bin location. Check the box marked “Gift Card” and save.

Now you’ll need to set up the gift card as a payment type in Lizzy. Go to Settings > General > Payment Methods and check to see if a Gift Card payment type is already set up. If it is not, enter the name you want to use for the gift card and choose Gift Cards as the category. Then select the image you’d like to use (there is already a default Gift Card image in the drop down list). This is what will appear on the invoice when a Gift Card is used as a payment type. Click Add.

Once it appears on the invoice, you will need to click on the pencil icon to enter the unique gift card number (or scan it if you are using a barcode scanner and your gift cards have barcodes on them).

Important: if you are NOT scanning the gift card, and are hand-entering the number, you MUST hit enter after the number is typed in and before you hit save. You do not need to do this if using a scanner.

Once Lizzy has saved the gift card number, it will look like this:

Click Save, and then process your invoice as usual once the rest of the customer’s items have been added.

To Recharge/Add Money to a Gift Card:

To recharge or add money to a gift card you have already sold, simply add the gift card part number to an invoice as you would if you were selling a new card. Then click the pencil icon beside the part number on the invoice. Scan (or hand type) in the old card number. If you are hand-typing the number, be sure to hit enter in the number field before hitting save.

To Look up a Gift Card’s Value:

From Invoicing > General Invoices, select “Look up Gift Card.” Scan the card (or type in and hit enter) and the details of the card will be displayed, including the current balance.
